ChitChat, a popular African social commerce app, is now reaching beyond the borders of the continent, expanding into major markets like the U.S., U.K., China, Japan, Canada, India, and Malaysia. Users in these regions can expect a revamped experience, complete with multi-currency exchanges, an in-app ChitChat wallet, and access to a virtual USD debit card. These features make it easier to send money across borders, whether to local bank accounts, mobile wallets, or even cash agents.

ChitChat’s Global Expansion

Currently, ChitChat serves six African nations, including Rwanda, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. This latest push is especially a major win for Africans at home and abroad, with the promise of fast and secure remittance options that steps around the usual complications associated with international payments. Since its launch in Zambia in March 2024, ChitChat has quickly become the go-to platform for in-app USD transactions and social commerce. The company hopes to lead the conversation around seamless cross-border interactions.

A Collaboration with Mastercard

Meanwhile, in September 2024, ChitChat announced a partnership with Mastercard, rolling out virtual cards designed for cross-border payments. With the company’s goal to expand remittance capabilities and boost accessibility for users everywhere, this collaboration is considered a right step in the right direction. For ChitChat, this is hopefully a move that can help them establish their place as a major player in the global payment space.
