The South African government has strengthened the leadership of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) with a key appointment. Mr Willie Vukela, Deputy Director-General for Government Service Access Improvement (GSAI), has been named an Interim Board member, joining a team of seasoned professionals tasked with driving the agency’s future success.

Announcing the appointment at a post-Cabinet media briefing in Cape Town, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni expressed confidence in Mr Vukela’s expertise. With over 17 years of experience, he is expected to play a pivotal role in modernising SITA’s service delivery framework.

SITA functions as the technological backbone of the South African government, facilitating IT solutions for the country’s largest employer and consumer of digital services. The agency’s mission includes enhancing efficiency, security, and innovation within government operations.

In addition to Mr Vukela’s appointment, the Cabinet has extended the tenure of Professor Busani Ngcaweni as Director-General of the National School of Government for another five years. This extension reaffirms the government’s commitment to continuity and expertise in public sector leadership.

These strategic moves reflect the administration’s efforts to reinforce institutional capacity and drive digital transformation within government agencies.
