The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) has launched the Single Digital Portal, a platform designed to modernize trade processes and expand the country’s international market reach. This innovative portal aims to provide local businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with a digital marketplace to showcase their products to global buyers.
The platform offers digital access to administration features, including online applications and issuance of trade documents, such as Certificates of Origin. It also provides a digital space for local producers to connect with international buyers. To ensure security, the platform includes identity verification through a partnership with the National Registration Bureau (NRB), allowing only verified businesses and individuals to transact.
Minister of Trade and Industry Vitumbiko Mumba emphasized the portal’s potential to reduce bureaucracy in trade, enabling digital applications for licenses and trade documents. Wisely Phiri, President of the Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the platform’s alignment with the organization’s digital transformation strategy, which runs until 2026.
To encourage adoption, the MCCCI has reduced registration fees by 50% for businesses applying online. This move is expected to boost local businesses’ participation in international trade, ultimately contributing to Malawi’s economic growth.
