The Nigerian government has stepped up its digital game with a newly inaugurated board for Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB). This move is expected to drive the country’s digital public infrastructure and improve ICT services across ministries, departments, and agencies. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, who also chairs the board, led the unveiling, reiterating the government’s commitment to repositioning GBB as a force in Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
Backed by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, the revamped board includes figures from diverse sectors. Among them are Rabi’a Adamu Waziri of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Abubakar Abdulqadir Maje from the Joint Stock Association, and Kemi Owonubi from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated. Other members include Hon. Olulade Olusegun, Olumbe Akinkugbe, and Adama Pindar, with representatives from Galaxy Backbone itself also holding seats.
Prof. Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, accepted the new responsibilities with confidence, promising reforms aimed at long-term sustainability. “This board is committed to realigning GBB’s vision and laying a strong groundwork for strategic achievements,” he said.
He also revealed that the agency had already launched an Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) to span from 2025 through 2028. This plan, according to Prof. Adeyanju, is aimed at syncing operations with Nigeria’s digital goals while making GBB more agile and future-ready.
The new leadership’s ability to foster inter-agency collaboration, streamline ICT services, and align with evolving tech trends will determine the success of this national agenda.
