United Bank for Africa (UBA) has introduced its next-generation Point of Sale (PoS) terminal and revamped MONI App, aiming to fast-track digital payments and empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the continent.
These innovations are part of UBA’s broader campaign, themed Innovation for Progress: Empowering SMEs, Connecting Communities, Simplifying Banking, a drive geared towards reshaping Africa’s digital banking experience and improving accessibility to financial tools for entrepreneurs and communities.
The new PoS system comes with a range of advanced features, including real-time monitoring, instant settlements, pay-by-link options, and a 100% transaction success rate. It’s also been optimised to suit businesses of all sizes, giving merchants a more reliable and efficient way to manage their payments without disruption.
A Digital Makeover for MONI App
Alongside the PoS upgrade, the MONI App—UBA’s flagship agency banking tool—has been enhanced with a redesigned homepage and strengthened features such as secret question security, pay-by-transfer capabilities, an improved inbox, and instant settlements. These updates make banking even more intuitive and secure for both agents and customers.
Core functions like real-time transfers, account opening with BVN/NIN, cash deposits and withdrawals, airtime and data purchases with agent discounts, and instant PoS deployment remain central to the app’s service. The improved experience is designed to equip agents—especially those serving remote or underserved communities—with faster, smarter tools.

Speaking on the upgrade, “At UBA, we are constantly innovating to provide seamless and secure payment solutions for businesses of all sizes,” said Shamsideen Fashola, Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking. “The new UBA PoS and MONI App are designed to empower merchants and agents with instant settlements, real-time tracking, and unmatched reliability.”
He added that UBA’s commitment goes beyond banking—it’s about delivering the infrastructure that helps African entrepreneurs stay competitive in a dynamic market

She encouraged merchants and agents to explore these offerings by visiting any UBA branch or heading to www.ubagroup.com.
