Okash (Blueridge Bank) loan app User Interface

Blueridge Microfinance Bank is under scrutiny after Lagos resident, Busayo Ayodele, found her Bank Verification Number (BVN) wrongly flagged as that of a loan defaulter — even though she repaid her loans on time. Ayodele had taken out two mobile loans via OKash and EaseMoni, both hosted by Blueridge, repaying N14,000 to OKash on March 28 and the second loan to EaseMoni by March 30.

Despite settling the debts before the deadline, Ayodele was informed in April that her BVN had been reported to a credit bureau for default. According to her, this information came from her account officer who claimed Blueridge was responsible for the report.

For four weeks, I’ve been on their necks to issue me a letter of non-indebtedness,” Ayodele told FIJ. “Now, they’re saying I should go back to my bank, and that the bank should email them requesting that I be issued the letter.”

Bank Stalls Resolution with Confusing Steps

Ayodele said her efforts to obtain a formal clearance from the microfinance bank have hit a wall. She noted that Blueridge initially promised to escalate the matter but failed to do so. Instead, they advised her to ask her primary bank to send an email on her behalf — a requirement Ayodele finds unnecessary and burdensome.

She added that her bank had clarified it was her right to directly request a letter of non-indebtedness from the lender. However, Blueridge refused to respond until they receive an official request from her main bank. The delay, Ayodele said, has significantly affected her.

When contacted, a Blueridge customer service representative stated that Ayodele should write a letter by hand, scan it, and send it via email to the bank’s managing director, explaining her need for the letter.
