The old Awolowo House in Ikeja, Lagos, once a proud landmark of innovation, has been demolished. In its place, a modern technology hub called the Awolowo Tech Mall is now under construction.

The redevelopment is a joint effort between Wemabod Limited and El-Salem Nigeria Limited, designed to honour the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, one of Nigeria’s most respected leaders.

A Bigger Space for Tech Growth

Unlike the original building, which had just 4,800 square metres, the new mall will span more than 9,000 square metres. This expanded space is expected to host world-class ICT firms, offering everything from the latest gadgets to cutting-edge services.

Speaking on the project, Ben Gbade Ojo, Managing Director of El-Salem Nigeria Limited, described the hub as more than just a shopping space. “This is a place where leading ICT experts congregate and set up shops and offices, a place where ICT training is carried out by global ICT geniuses, and where ICT puzzles find ready answers,” he said.

He added: “You will likely find at the A.T. Mall, any ICT or electronic product available in the world, and you may not need to travel outside Nigeria for the products.

Lagos as a Tech Powerhouse

The new Awolowo Technology Mall comes at a time when Lagos is drawing global attention for its rapid growth in digital innovation. Data from Statisense shows that the city is now the fastest-growing emerging technology ecosystem in the world.

Analysts believe the mall will help Lagos consolidate this reputation. “The ongoing development of the magnificent Awolowo Technology Mall, now sought after by world-class technology firms, will further solidify Lagos’ status as a leading technology hub,” they noted.
