Wakanow Group, one of Africa’s biggest travel technology companies, is stepping into the entertainment scene after acquiring Nairabox, a fast-growing Nigerian platform known for its digital ticketing and events services.
The company confirmed the deal earlier this week, describing it as part of its plan to blend travel with lifestyle and culture. The acquisition marks a fresh direction for Wakanow as it looks beyond flight bookings and hotel deals to engage consumers through music, film, and live experiences.
Founded as a hub for movie tickets, concerts, and live shows, Nairabox has become a go-to app for Nigerians seeking leisure experiences. Now integrated into Wakanow’s growing ecosystem, it will help the brand offer users a single digital gateway for everything from flights to fun.
A New Era for Nigeria’s Digital Lifestyle Scene
To lead this next phase, Wakanow appointed Tobi Andero as Head of Business for Nairabox. Andero, who brings years of experience in experiential marketing, will oversee growth and brand strategy as both companies combine strengths under one umbrella.
Wakanow’s Group CEO, Bayo Adedeji, said the acquisition reflects the company’s ambition to reach customers across all lifestyle touchpoints.“We see tremendous opportunity in the intersection of travel and entertainment,” Adedeji explained. “This acquisition allows us to offer deeper, richer experiences to our customers, not just where they travel but also how they live and engage with culture.”
He added that Wakanow’s expansion isn’t limited to geography but also extends into new industries that complement its travel business. For Nairabox, the merger is a defining moment. CEO Ugochukwu Jay Chikezie described it as “an exciting new chapter for the entertainment-tech space in Nigeria.”
“Over the years, we’ve built a platform that connects people to the experiences they love,” he said. “Together with Wakanow, we’re creating a future where access to unforgettable events becomes simpler, smarter, and more connected than ever.”
Travel Meets Tech and Entertainment
The deal highlights how Africa’s digital economy is evolving — where travel, leisure, and entertainment now merge through technology. With more consumers seeking convenience and experiences that blend mobility and enjoyment, Wakanow’s move could set a new trend across the continent.
The company’s growing portfolio already includes brands like Wakanow.com, Kalabash54.com, and Roomde.com. With Nairabox now on board, the group looks positioned to dominate both the travel and lifestyle markets in Africa.
