MTN Nigeria has announced a scheduled maintenance exercise that will affect connectivity in parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano States on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

The two-hour network shutdown, planned between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., will impact 101 sites across 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs). The company said the activity is part of its ongoing commitment to enhance service reliability and upgrade its fibre infrastructure in northern Nigeria.

Maintenance to Strengthen Fibre Network

According to MTN, engineers will be working on a “fibre cutover” — the replacement of damaged cable sections along the AFCOT–Bawo Village route. The operation aims to remove old, unstable joints that have weakened optical performance and disrupted network stability.

In a statement, the telecom giant said: “MTN regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates customers’ understanding.”

During the exercise, customers in several LGAs — including Nasarawa (Kano State); Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North (Adamawa State); and Askira/Uba and Shani (Borno State) — will experience temporary outages.

MTN noted that all 2G, 3G, 4G, and enterprise connections within the affected areas will be unavailable during the maintenance window due to the linear and unprotected nature of the fibre route.

Next Phase of an Ongoing Restoration Plan

This latest maintenance follows an earlier restoration exercise conducted in August 2025 along the same AFCOT–Bawo corridor. The current phase, the company added, is a more extensive upgrade aimed at fixing long-term network issues and ensuring more stable connectivity for its customers.

The telecom operator reaffirmed that the exercise is part of its broader effort to maintain consistent service quality across Nigeria, especially in regions that depend on stable internet for communication and commerce.
