Vitel Wireless has introduced a new communication service that promises free calls and SMS for teams across Nigeria. The launch attracted business owners and tech professionals who wished to witness how this platform merges GSM features with cloud tools.

The Executive Chairman, Engr. Kenneth Nwabueze, said the platform was more than basic telecom support. He termed it “a growth engine for businesses”. He emphasized that most companies were still struggling with communication costs, team coordination, and data security. According to him, Vitel would seek to provide a more affordable and secure way of remaining connected.

He said the new Closed User Group network connects up to 50 staff lines under one private system, adding that such users within the group can make free calls and send free SMS from Xphone to Xphone. He said teams will also enjoy discounted data bundles, 24/7 auto-attendant support, PBX extensions, and advanced safety features through SecureMe and Oga-App.

He added that this new system includes international connectivity at reduced prices, which, according to him, would be helpful in extending the reach of SMEs and corporates without putting pressure on their budget.

Inside Vitel’s communication ecosystem

During the event, Chiobi Ben Odera, Head of Product Marketing, explained that Vitel built the platform to provide real-time tracking, send safety alerts, run payroll automation, and provide insights into performance analytics. He said these tools were put together to help organisations manage their teams more efficiently.

He says, “Every business today needs to be smarter, safer, and more connected”. According to him, Vitel’s Location Awareness Technology links SecureMe, Oga-App, and Location-Based Services. All these combine to grant businesses live visibility over their workforce, assets, and logistics operations.

Guests also watched a live demo of the SecureMe tool. The app turns tracking on only when a user activates it. The team also demonstrated how Oga-App uses GPS to verify attendance and generate automated performance reports. It would help manage communication for schools, logistics businesses, hospitals, and startups in a more organized and cost-effective way, the company said.

I am passionate about crafting stories, vibing to good music (and making some too), debating Nigeria’s political future like it’s the World Cup, and finding the perfect quiet spot to work and unwind.
