A quiet celebration took place in Omole Estate Phase 1, Lagos, as IHS Nigeria unveiled a new recreational park built to support healthier and more connected communities. The company said the project fits into its long-term commitment to sustainable infrastructure and aligns with global calls for greener urban spaces.
During the inauguration, the firm’s Director of Sustainability, Titilope Oguntuga, explained why the initiative mattered. “At IHS Nigeria, we believe infrastructure goes beyond connectivity and technology. It is about people and the environments in which they live, work, and thrive. Recreational and green spaces are critical to promoting well-being, inclusion, and stronger communities,” she said.
Residents echoed this sentiment, noting how the new recreational park could ease the pressure of city life. Chairman of the Omole Phase 1 Residents’ Association, Abimbola Osikoya, said the space would quickly become a meeting point for families and neighbours. “In a city as dynamic as Lagos, spaces like this are essential. This park will serve as a place for relaxation, family bonding, healthy living, and neighbourly interaction. The measure of a society is how it cares for its people, and IHS has demonstrated this through meaningful community investment,” he noted.
A Project Built Through Collaboration
The park is the only facility of its kind in its immediate cluster, a detail that drew praise from the Chairman of the Titilayo Adedoyin Community Development Association, Segun Fayemi. “Out of the 18 sectors in this area, only mine has such a facility. I am the happiest man today,” he said while thanking the partners behind the project.
A representative of the Lagos State Park and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), and its Head of Partnerships, Temitope Okumuyide, said the new recreational park fits neatly into the agency’s wider mission. She explained that the development supports LASPARK’s mandate to promote healthy and safe environments across Lagos State.
The project, completed within just four months, relied on cooperation between IHS Nigeria, the Lagos State Government’s representatives, LASPARK, and the Omole Estate Executive Committee. Their collaboration ensured the recreational park could move from planning to commissioning without delays.
The opening of the recreational park adds to growing efforts to create more inclusive and accessible green areas across the city. It also highlights a shift toward private organisations playing a more active role in community development.
