Warner Music Group (WMG) and Audiomack have taken a significant step in their partnership, expanding their licensing agreement to cover 47 additional countries. This move enhances access to WMG’s vast music catalog and is expected to create new opportunities for African artists seeking global recognition. With this expansion, music lovers in nations such as Uganda and Zimbabwe will now have legal access to Warner Music’s extensive library. This deal also strengthens Audiomack’s competitive standing against other streaming platforms operating in Africa, such as Boomplay, Spotify, and Apple Music.

The collaboration initially covered the United States, Canada, Jamaica, and five key African territories—Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tanzania. Now, the agreement extends to regions such as the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

For African musicians, this means broader exposure and increased revenue streams from streaming and licensing opportunities. Music streaming has experienced massive growth all over the continent, with an estimated 50 million African users engaging with platforms.

In Nigeria alone, Spotify recorded a 146% rise in music consumption in 2024. As platforms like Audiomack refine their artist-first approach, extending secure payment options and licensing agreements, creators can better monetize their content while reaching new audiences. The move mirrors industry trends, where streaming services are becoming essential in music discovery and talent promotion.

In 2019, Boomplay secured a direct licensing agreement with Warner Music to distribute over one million songs across ten African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda. More so, with Audiomack’s expansion, even more African artists stand to benefit. With increased visibility and improved monetization opportunities, this development could reshape Africa’s digital music landscape, ensuring local talent gains international recognition even as music lovers across the continent enjoy an enriched streaming experience.
