Yango, the ride-hailing service operating in Cameroon, has been granted a five-year extension on its operating licence. This move paves the way for expansion and further integration into the country’s digital economy.
Expansion Plans on the Horizon
Since launching in Yaoundé and Douala in 2021, Yango has steadily grown its presence in Cameroon. The company now aims to expand into Bafoussam within the first quarter of the year.
“We plan to extend our services to Bafoussam, offering greater access to modern and secured mobility solutions,” said Clovis Pilla, Yango Cameroon’s country manager.
Beyond geographical expansion, Yango is focusing on enhancing its platform and boosting the capabilities of its partner drivers. According to Pilla, “Over the next five years, we plan to extend our services to other cities, introduce new offerings, and strengthen our integration into the digital financial solutions ecosystem.”
Strengthening the Transport Ecosystem
Yango’s presence in Cameroon has had a notable economic impact. Partnering with around 150 local transport firms, the company has generated over 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. Additionally, it serves approximately 150,000 active users each month, highlighting the growing demand for ride-hailing services in the country.
With its extended licence and commitment to innovation, Yango is set to play a key role in shaping the future of urban mobility in Cameroon.
