MTN, Huawei sign MOU to deepen partenrship during the MWC Conference at Barcelona on the 3rd to 6th of March 2025

At MWC Barcelona 2025, MTN Group and Huawei solidified their long-standing collaboration through a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at driving digital transformation across Africa. The agreement sets the stage for the development of advanced connectivity solutions, cloud-based technologies, and digital infrastructure that will enhance network reliability, improve service quality, and broaden digital access, particularly in underserved areas.

Mazen Mroué, Group Chief Technology and Information Officer of MTN highlighted the company’s vision to deliver seamless and inclusive digital experiences across Africa. He stated, “Through this collaboration with Huawei, we are exploring innovative solutions to enhance network reliability, improve service quality, and expand digital access for underserved communities. By leveraging advanced connectivity and cloud technologies, we aim to empower businesses, enrich customer experiences, and accelerate Africa’s digital future.”

Driving Africa’s Digital Transformation

The partnership is expected to be a game-changer in the region’s digital evolution. Huawei’s Corporate Senior Vice President, President of ICT Sales & Service, Li Peng, also shared his excitement over the collaboration, saying, “Our joint initiatives in 5G-Advanced networks and AI-powered cloud platforms will create a robust foundation for Africa’s digital economy. This partnership exemplifies our commitment to developing localised solutions that bridge both technological and skills gaps across the continent.”

Huawei’s showcase at MWC Barcelona 2025, held from March 3 to March 6 in Barcelona, Spain, features its latest products and solutions at stand 1H50 in Fira Gran Via Hall 1. The company aims to push the boundaries of technology by working closely with carriers and partners worldwide.

With commercial 5G-Advanced deployment expected to accelerate in 2025, Huawei’s collaboration with MTN promises to reshape business operations, infrastructure, and operations and maintenance (O&M) across the continent. The project reflects Huawei’s dedication to helping Africa transition towards an intelligent world.
