Orange has officially kicked off the 15th edition of its renowned Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP), encouraging entrepreneurs across Africa and the Middle East to submit innovative projects that tackle pressing challenges. The competition, which began in 2011, aims to reward startups leveraging technology to drive positive change in sectors like education, healthcare, e-commerce, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.

The announcement made on Tuesday marks the start of the application process, which will run until May 18, 2025. Entrepreneurs from 17 countries, including Cameroon, Mali, Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Egypt, are eligible to participate. Other eligible nations include Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Jordan, Liberia, Madagascar, Morocco, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Tunisia.

Two-Stage Competition for Global Recognition

The OSVP competition is divided into two stages to ensure fair representation and recognition of groundbreaking ideas. In the first phase, participating countries select their top three winners at the national level. The second stage involves these national winners competing at the international level for the grand prizes.

According to Orange, “the OSVP prize has been rewarding innovative start-up projects that use and develop new technologies to make a positive impact in Africa and the Middle East in fields such as education, healthcare, e-commerce, agriculture, or environment.”

Applications are to be submitted online via the Orange startup portal, where participants can also find more information about the prize and the application requirements.
