Nigerian edtech startup AltSchool is taking a bold step into hybrid education with the launch of its latest initiative, Campus by AltSchool. Known for its online courses in software development, product design, and creative skills, the platform aims to improve course completion rates by offering students a more immersive, in-person learning experience.

The programme is set to roll out in Q2 2025, with Lagos and Kigali identified as the first locations. Over time, AltSchool plans to expand into other African cities, providing a wider reach for students who prefer a structured learning environment.

Bridging the Gap Between Online and In-Person Learning

One of the biggest challenges online learners in Africa face is limited access to power and stable internet. AltSchool is partnering with Pistis Hub to address this, offering students access to reliable learning hubs, internet, and power.

Unlike traditional online courses, students in the hybrid programme will receive on-site instruction three times a week, with each session lasting four hours. This structure allows for direct interaction with instructors while maintaining the flexibility of online learning.

The pilot phase will focus on four-month masterclasses, significantly shorter than the 12-month duration of AltSchool’s online diploma courses. Although pricing details have not been disclosed, the hybrid model will come at a higher cost due to expenses related to physical locations and infrastructure. However, the startup is offering instalment payment plans and scholarships to make the programme more accessible.

Making Education More Accessible in Africa

AltSchool is actively collaborating with organisations to offset costs and support students. It has already partnered with Bybit, Binance, and OpenLabs Ghana, with a particular focus on young secondary school leavers looking for short, practical training programmes.

With over 60% of Africa’s population under 25, the need for accessible, skill-based education is greater than ever. While macroeconomic challenges continue to impact the edtech sector, AltSchool’s shift into hybrid learning could be a game-changer, offering students across Africa a more engaging and structured path to success.
