Telecom Egypt has appointed Lobna Helal as its new Chair of the Board, marking a historic shift in the company’s leadership. Helal, a seasoned finance and banking expert, replaces Dr Magued Osman, who stepped down after nine years at the helm.
This move comes alongside the reappointment of Mohamed Nasr as Managing Director and CEO, ensuring continuity in the company’s digital transformation strategy.
Who is Lobna Helal?
Helal has built a reputation for shattering glass ceilings. She was the first woman to serve as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), holding the role twice—first in 2011 and again from 2015 to 2021. With a 30-year career in economic policy and banking, she has played a pivotal role in strengthening Egypt’s financial sector.
A graduate of the American University in Cairo, Helal’s experience spans investment banking, financial regulation, and economic strategy. She has also served on the board of Egypt’s Sovereign Wealth Fund and as Chair of the Egyptian Mortgage Refinance Company.
A New Vision for Telecom Egypt
With Helal’s financial expertise and strategic leadership, Telecom Egypt is set to expand its role as a regional data hub. Her appointment signals a new direction in corporate governance, emphasising gender diversity in executive leadership.
As the company navigates the rapidly evolving telecom sector, all eyes are on how Helal and Nasr’s leadership will drive innovation and expansion in the years ahead.
