Starlink users in Nigeria may need to brace for higher bills. The satellite internet provider has announced another hike in its monthly residential plan, this time pegging the new fee at N57,000, effective 30 May 2025.

In an email to existing subscribers, the company confirmed the updated pricing, stating, “As a current customer, your monthly service price will increase beginning 30 May 2025.” New customers will, however, pay the revised fee immediately. Those unwilling to continue the service were advised to cancel their subscriptions via their account page.

Starlink further offered a flexible refund policy. Customers can request a full refund if they return the hardware and service within 30 days of purchase. If the hardware was bought within the past year, users can still get half the cost back.

A History of Price Tensions

This isn’t the first time Starlink has tried to raise its subscription cost in Nigeria. Back in October 2024, the company announced a new fee of N75,000 per month. But the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) promptly objected, calling the move “unilateral” and contrary to sectoral guidelines.

Following the pushback, Starlink shelved the increase. Another attempt followed on December 28, when the company again declared a hike for January 27. Yet, no changes were actually made at the time, leading to confusion among subscribers and regulators alike.

Starlink’s service, which arrived in Nigeria in early 2023, has been celebrated for its high-speed connectivity in remote regions. But pricing controversies may be testing customers’ loyalty and the patience of local regulators.
