Xtralarge Farms & Resorts, a Nigerian agribusiness company, has launched a bold campaign to tackle food insecurity by turning farming into a modern and appealing lifestyle. The company introduced this new effort at a press event in Lagos, where it officially kicked off the 90-day World Agritourism Festival.
Dr. Moji Davids, the Managing Director of Xtralarge Farms & Resorts, announced the festival. She said the goal is to change how people, especially young Nigerians, view agriculture. For many years, people have seen farming as hard work with little reward. But Davids wants to show that agriculture can lead to success, creativity, and food security.
She explained that interest in farming has dropped because many people connect it with poverty, stress, and insecurity. “We asked ourselves why people are leaving farming and why food prices keep going up,” Davids said. “It’s because farming in Nigeria has long been seen as tough, risky, and boring.”
Xtralarge Farms Rebrands Agriculture Through Tourism
To solve this problem, Xtralarge Farms is leading what it calls a “rebranding revolution.” The company wants to make agriculture fun, profitable, and exciting through tourism. The 90-day festival, which runs from May 16 to August 12, 2025, includes:
- Four online summits
- Two national roadshows
- A major agritourism expo and conference on June 14 at the Marriott Hotel in Lagos
- Farm tours and stays at the luxury Xtralarge farm resort in Ogun State
- Farmers’ market events and over 30 practical training sessions across schools and local communities
Davids said the campaign hopes to reach one million Nigerians, giving them a new view of what farming can offer. The company aims to inspire more people to take part in agriculture and start their farming businesses.
Xtralarge Farms has already started blending farming with tourism. It’s a farm resort, located on Ota/Idiroko Road in Ogun State, that offers a mix of rural farming and modern hospitality. The farm hosts weddings, birthdays, school trips, and corporate events, giving guests a chance to enjoy farming in a fun and comfortable environment. Many visitors, Davids said, leave the resort motivated to begin their farms.
Taking Agritourism to the World
The company also plans to expand the festival to other countries. International editions will take place in the United Kingdom (October 2025), Canada (March 2026), Australia (July 2026), Dubai, and Central Europe.
Davids called on both public and private organizations to support the festival through sponsorships, partnerships, and teamwork. She said this movement is about more than tourism—it’s about protecting Nigeria’s food supply and creating new jobs through modern farming.
“With support from Nigerians at home and abroad, we believe we can turn agriculture into a major source of wealth,” Davids said. “We’re leading the way, and we invite everyone to join us in shaping the future of farming.”
