The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has revealed plans to launch artificial intelligence-driven lesson plans for schools across the country. The move, officials say, will redefine how teachers prepare and deliver classroom content.
The announcement came in Abuja during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with GMIND AI. TRCN Registrar, Dr Ronke Soyombo, explained that the project aims to deliver “AI-generated lesson plans that are contextualised for our children.” She stressed that lessons would not only be written but also simulated, so that learners can both see and experience concepts.
Local Content at the Heart of AI Lesson Plans
Unlike existing international tools, the TRCN-GMIND platform will be rooted in Nigerian realities. “Our children can still learn about the Victorians, but they must also learn about the Ife and Benin Kingdoms in the same breath,” Soyombo noted.
The resource bank, she added, will cover every subject and be accessible online, through TRCN offices in the states, and in downloadable formats. It will also cater to different levels of learners, offering differentiated content for gifted, average, and struggling students.
Training Teachers Nationwide
To ensure adoption, training will take place in all six geopolitical zones. The platform will provide two main resource types. Teachers with strong digital skills will get AI-generated and simulated lesson plans, while those less comfortable with technology will use prescriptive, ready-to-deliver plans designed by top educators.
“Once the burden of lesson planning is reduced, teachers can focus on adapting materials to their learners’ needs,” Soyombo said.
The rollout will begin with the unveiling of TRCN’s new website on 25 August, which will include multilingual video guides. The AI platform itself is scheduled for launch on 6 October.
A New Chapter for Nigerian Education
Director of Strategic Partnership and Innovation at GMIND AI, Dr Deji Ajani, described the collaboration as a milestone. “We are excited to co-create TRCN AI, a customised ecosystem that blends cutting-edge technology with Nigeria’s unique educational needs,” he said.
While the programme is built for Nigerian classrooms, TRCN confirmed that access will be limited to registered and licensed teachers.
The initiative is expected to boost teaching quality, foster inclusivity, and show how Africa can lead in contextualised educational technology.
