Nigeria has unveiled Service-Wise GPT, an AI-powered tool designed to enhance public service efficiency and streamline administrative processes. The announcement was made by Didi Esther Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, during her presentation at the Global Government Summit 2025 in Singapore.
Service-Wise GPT is a user-friendly AI assistant that provides easy access to essential governance documents, including Public Service Rules, Statutory Instruments, Regulations, and Guidelines. Currently in its Beta phase, the tool is expected to automate policy drafting, facilitate memo writing, and assist with real-time policy research, significantly reducing bureaucratic delays.
According to Walson-Jack, implementing Service-Wise GPT will save time for civil servants, enhance compliance, improve productivity, and accelerate decision-making across various government ministries. She emphasized that 73% of users reported saving 2–3 hours daily, and the tool received a 90% recommendation rate for its efficiency and accessibility.
Bureaucratic inefficiencies have long plagued Nigeria’s public sector, often hindering effective service delivery. Service-Wise GPT aims to address this issue by automating repetitive administrative tasks, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring better regulatory adherence.
This initiative agrees with Nigeria’s broader AI-driven development strategy, which seeks to leverage artificial intelligence for national progress. In April 2024, the government announced plans to bring 120 AI researchers, startups, and industry stakeholders together to establish a comprehensive AI implementation framework. The focal areas are key challenges in education, healthcare, and agriculture.
The launch of Service-Wise GPT also supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes digital transformation in governance. Additionally, Nigeria has set an ambitious goal of creating 50,000 AI-related jobs by 2030, positioning the country as a global hub for AI model training and talent development.
Furthering its commitment to technology-driven growth, the Nigerian government introduced the AI Expertise Blockchain and Technology Training and Outsourcing Initiative in July 2024. Launched by Vice President Kashim Shettima in Jigawa State, this program aims to train 1,000 Nigerians annually in emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, strengthening the country’s digital capabilities.
Walson-Jack described Service-Wise GPT as a significant step toward modernizing governance, emphasizing its potential to contribute to national and global economies. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to responsible, ethical, and inclusive AI adoption, ensuring that technology serves the public good.
