Telegram is going all-in on artificial intelligence after securing a massive $300 million agreement with Elon Musk’s xAI. The year-long partnership will bring xAI’s chatbot, Grok, to the Telegram app, allowing users to access its features across the messaging platform. The deal, which includes both cash and equity, was confirmed by Telegram CEO Pavel Durov.

According to Durov, Telegram will also receive 50% of the revenue generated from Grok subscriptions bought within the app. “This partnership allows Telegram to monetise our platform while giving users cutting-edge AI tools,” he noted. While Grok had previously been rolled out to Telegram’s premium subscribers, this development hints at wider availability for all users.

This collaboration comes as big tech firms race to embed AI tools directly into their messaging platforms. Meta, for example, has already integrated Meta AI into the search functions of WhatsApp and Instagram. Now, Telegram is stepping up with Grok — a chatbot designed to handle writing prompts, summarise texts, generate stickers, and even support business queries or moderate chats.

How Telegram Plans to Use Grok for Everyday Chat

A video shared by Durov on X reveals how Grok will function within the app. The AI tool can be pinned to the top of chat threads or accessed directly from the search bar, giving users a seamless experience. From drafting messages to creating stickers and even summarising documents, Grok aims to become an all-in-one assistant for Telegram users.

The deal signals Telegram’s intent to become a leading player in the AI-enhanced chat space. With over 900 million users, the app is already one of the most downloaded messaging platforms globally. Bringing Grok onboard could further solidify its dominance — especially if the integration proves useful for both casual users and businesses.

More than just a chatbot, Grok could represent the start of something bigger for Telegram’s in-app ecosystem.
