The cryptocurrency world was rattled once again as Adefowora Abiodun, a promoter of the controversial Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) this week. His surrender follows his recent declaration as a wanted person in connection with an alleged $1 billion investment scam that has left countless Nigerians devastated.
Abiodun reported to the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters around 4:00 p.m. on Monday, appearing alongside his legal counsel. According to a statement from the commission, he showed willingness to assist the investigation. “The suspect, who was accompanied by his lawyers, expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation,” the EFCC confirmed.
A Crack in the Crypto Silence
The EFCC had earlier obtained a court order for the arrest of Abiodun and five others: Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim. They are all linked to CBEX, which has been under fire for allegedly orchestrating one of the country’s most staggering crypto-related frauds.
The scheme, which promised attractive returns through cryptocurrency trading, reportedly duped investors of a staggering $1 billion. Many victims say their life savings vanished into thin air. Now, Abiodun’s surrender signals a glimmer of hope that justice might be within reach. As investigations continue, Nigerians are watching closely, hoping the EFCC’s probe brings answers — and possibly recovery — for those affected.
