African businesses often face hurdles when subscribing to global Software as a Service (SaaS) tools, from foreign exchange fluctuations to high transaction fees. Mercurie, a digital service management company, aims to change that with its newly launched platform.
The service enables companies to manage and pay for digital subscriptions in local currency, reducing costs and simplifying operations. According to Mercurie CEO and Founder Ayode Akinfemiwa, a former Google executive, the platform removes “currency conversion headaches” and allows businesses to consolidate their software payments into a single interface.
Expanding Beyond Google Services
Mercurie made its first significant move in August 2022 with Adpay, a tool that allowed businesses to pay for Google Ads in local currency. The company later expanded to support Google Cloud and Google Workspace, helping businesses leverage AI-driven capabilities.
Now, Mercurie is widening its reach by integrating services like Zoho, Digital Ocean, Huawei, and AWS, making it easier for businesses to manage multiple subscriptions without administrative stress.
The new platform offers: Centralised SaaS payments in local currency, lower transaction fees and reduced foreign exchange risks, expert support for software deployment and training, and discounted subscription costs on selected services
Akinfemiwa highlighted the cost-saving benefits, noting that Mercurie does not charge additional fees for certain services like Google Workspace and Google Cloud. Businesses pay less when subscribing through the platform.
Solving a Costly Problem
For many African startups, rising operational expenses make efficient financial management crucial. Mercurie’s platform aims to remove payment barriers, making it easier for companies to access essential software tools without struggling with fragmented payment systems.
Early adopters have reported significant improvements, with one company cutting administrative costs by 40% in three months. As more businesses look for cost-effective ways to manage their software subscriptions, Mercurie’s solution could redefine how African enterprises interact with the global digital economy.
