Toyota Nigeria Limited has announced plans to introduce fuel-efficient and hybrid vehicles in response to Nigeria’s changing economy and the Federal Government’s clean energy goals.
Toyota Nigeria’s Managing Director revealed that the company will soon launch two hybrid models—the Urban Cruiser and Corolla Cross. These cars, powered by fuel and extra battery packs, promise better mileage and lower fuel consumption. They align with the Federal Government’s push for environmentally friendly transportation.
The company made this announcement during a press conference on Thursday in Lagos. The event also launched the second edition of the Toyota Motor Show at Lekki. At the show, Toyota showcased a variety of models, including the Land Cruiser, Hilux, Fortuner, Granvia, and Prado. The event also featured Toyota parts, motor oil, and vehicle body services.
The MD also revealed plans to introduce a new compact SUV. This upcoming model, expected by late 2025 or early 2026, will feature a 2.4-litre engine and a four-wheel drive system. It will be smaller than the RAV4 and offer an alternative for drivers who want both performance and fuel savings.
Toyota Nigeria Expands Model Lineup
The company’s boss confirmed Toyota’s goal to serve the different needs of Nigerian buyers. He said the ongoing motor show, running from May 27 to June 1 (excluding May 30), offers visitors discounts on selected models and highlights the company’s strong after-sales service.
Later this year, Toyota plans to launch the Starlet Cross, a new SUV model. The company will also release updated versions of the Corolla Cross and RAV4 to give buyers more energy-saving options.
Toyota’s latest plans show its strong support for Nigeria’s move to adopt clean energy. The introduction of hybrid cars and fuel-saving SUVs comes as fuel prices rise and more Nigerians look for eco-friendly transport.
As global interest in electric and hybrid vehicles continues to grow, Toyota Nigeria is taking a big step to bring cleaner, more efficient cars to local buyers. This shift marks a new chapter in the country’s auto industry—one focused on smart technology, lower fuel use, and caring for the environment.
