In a bold effort to uncover new digital leaders, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched a tech startup competition in Enugu, spotlighting young innovators from Nigeria’s southeast region ahead of the GITEX Nigeria 2025 Startup Festival.
The event, which forms part of a national roadshow, drew talent from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo. These emerging entrepreneurs will battle for a chance to pitch at the Abuja Startup Festival in September, and potentially earn a place on the global stage in Dubai.
“This is more than a competition. It’s a pipeline to national relevance and global competitiveness,” said Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, Enugu State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology. He urged participants to seize the opportunity not just for exposure, but as a stepping stone to GITEX Global.
Bridging Southeast Talent to the Global Tech Arena
NITDA’s southeast lead, Dr. Nkem Momah, noted that the programme aims to discover and nurture startups solving real-world problems through digital innovation. Key focus areas include HealthTech, EdTech, FinTech, AgriTech, CreativeTech, AI, and ClimateTech.
“Our goal is to identify and empower bold innovators whose solutions can reshape Nigeria’s digital economy,” Momah stated. Winners from the regional pitch will be sponsored to exhibit at the Abuja event, where they’ll engage with investors, government agencies, and media figures.
If selected, these innovators may also join GITEX Global 2025, a flagship technology conference in Dubai known for launching startups onto the international scene.
