The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled a cutting-edge ICT park at the University of Ibadan, reinforcing the government’s mission to accelerate digital innovation and tech entrepreneurship across the country.
Speaking at the official handover in Ibadan, Dr Aminu Maida, the NCC’s Executive Vice-Chairman, said the initiative is part of a wider plan to strengthen Nigeria’s research ecosystem and drive economic transformation through digital inclusion.
The park, he explained, is one of six flagship digital infrastructure projects being rolled out in key institutions nationwide. Represented by Abraham Oshadami, Executive Commissioner for Technical Services, Maida said the goal is to fuel homegrown innovation with real-world impact. “Technology stands as one of the most powerful drivers of economic and social transformation. For Nigeria’s evolving economy, it represents our greatest opportunity for inclusive growth,” he said.
A Strategic Boost for Research and Innovation
Branded with the slogan “One Roof, All Possibilities”, the ICT park brings together high-performance computing labs, simulation rooms, networking systems, co-working spaces, and multipurpose halls — all designed to support cutting-edge research and startup creation.
Dr Maida noted that the facility aligns with Nigeria’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, as well as the strategic goals set by Dr Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
Receiving the facility, Professor Kayode Adebowale, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, said the park arrives at a time when the digital economy is reshaping global development. “The University of Ibadan, as Nigeria’s premier university, recognises its critical role in preparing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers equipped to navigate and shape this digital future,” he stated.
He added that the world is already deep into a fourth industrial revolution, and only countries that invest smartly in infrastructure and innovation would remain competitive.
The park includes a 100-seat main hall, five fully equipped ICT hubs, a 24-seat lounge with dual-workstation computers, and several collaborative spaces aimed at fostering entrepreneurship.
