Nigeria Launches NINAuth for Safer Data AccessIn a move believed to put full control in the hands of citizens over how their personal data is accessed and used, Nigeria has launched an all-new digital identification application called NINAuth.
The launch, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has marked a major milestone in the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with the goal of deepening digital inclusion and building public trust in data systems.
The new application designed by NIMC makes it possible for Nigerians to approve, deny, or monitor access permissions linked to their NIN. With this app, users can do all these, which has been a big shift from the earlier systems where such controls were limited.
Empowering Nigerians Through Data Ownership
The NINAuth application, according to NIMC, is a new chapter in Nigeria’s journey with regard to identity management. “It is also about giving power back to citizens,” its leadership asserts, adding that users will now have the last say over who views or makes use of their data.

The app also targets a broader problem: identity theft and unauthorized data sharing. By making it possible for citizens to track every request for data in real-time, the platform could close loopholes often exploited in financial and telecom transactions.
According to experts, the innovation in technology will help businesses and public institutions to achieve fast, safe, and transparent verification of identity. It will also benefit other industries that rely on verified data: banking, telecommunications, and financial technologies, or fintech.
Making Digital Identity Work for All
The system is designed for all, from the microloan agent to the large corporations, while the interface accommodates both high-tech, literate users and those with low digital literacy to ensure no one is left behind in the new digital economy of Nigeria.
For example, telecom operators can verify millions of subscribers in real-time, while the market trader can safely apply for a small business loan without the danger of exposing their personal data.
The government says this inclusivity is central to its digital transformation vision. “We’re not just building an app; we’re building a trusted ecosystem where every Nigerian feels secure using digital services,” explained a senior official at NIMC.
Further than this, NINAuth will help government agencies maintain transparency and accountability in public service delivery. It is believed that good identity management will advance Nigeria’s digital economy, investor confidence, and cross-sector collaboration.
