LAGOS, Nigeria – A group of friends soars into a blue sky, clothes bursting with colour. A girl runs down a dusty street, her dress a swirl of white light. These and other moments, frozen in time and captured on TECNO CAMON devices, have won big in this year’s edition of TECNO‘s Shot On CAMON competition. TECNO announced the Shot On CAMON 2025 winners on October 27. The contest drew over 10,000 entries from 56 countries, celebrating creators from emerging markets who use smartphone lenses to tell human stories.

Now in its second year, the partnership with Amateur Photographer magazine has awarded $37,000 total. The grand prize, $10,000 and the TECNO Photography Master title, went to Nigerian @micheal_the_colorist for “High Spirits.” Shot on the CAMON 40 Pro, the image shows friends mid-jump, arms wide in youthful joy.

Entries for the mobile photography award spanned three categories: Snap Every Pulse, Snap All Fleeting Bonds, and Snap Any Motion. They captured life’s heartbeat from community labour to playful mud-splashes. Nigel Atherton, editor of Amateur Photographer, praised the growth. “This year’s Shot On CAMON contest shows clear growth from the first edition, not just in scale, but in confidence and individuality,” Atherton said. “Many creators from emerging markets told powerful everyday stories with a distinct visual voice.”

Laury Bai, TECNO’s chief marketing officer, echoed that. “Through ‘Shot On CAMON,’ TECNO celebrates not just technical skill, but the power of perspective,” Bai said. “Every photograph tells a unique story, revealing the beauty, rhythm, and connection in our daily lives.”

Snap Any Motion’s winner captured the impressive leap of a sepak takraw player at dusk. The image selected for the second showed a wheeled cyclist performing stunts midair. Bronze went to a graceful image from the inside of a sprawling net.

Ten “TECNO Friend” prizes were handed to CAMON 40 Premier 5G phones for participation. Winners will head to London for a photography tour at the end of the year. Their shots will also star in exhibitions, TECNO’s photo book, and online galleries.

The contest ran from May to September and was open to Tecno users from around the world. It empowers creators with tech to share visions. Tecno remains one of Nigeria’s most owned budget smartphones. As emerging markets rise, Shot On CAMON 2025 winners remind us that the best stories often hide in plain sight.

I love to write about the things I love to read about. That includes sports, tech, DIYs, literature, music and entertainment. When I'm not writing, I'm either sleeping, reading, watching a funny Netflix series or eating a bowl of abula.
