IBADAN, Nigeria – Maryam Muritadha, a software and AI engineer, received the Distinguished Tech Innovation Award at Ibadan Tech Expo 2025 on Saturday for her contributions to technology and social change. Muritadha, who works as a product developer at Morphologic UK, could not attend due to commitments abroad. Her sister, Misturah Muritadha, accepted the award on her behalf. Misturah read a statement from Maryam, who thanked the organisers and spoke about her passion for tech as a force for good. “Technology has always been more than code. It’s a tool to solve real-world problems, empower communities, and inspire change,” she said. “We’ve all seen this through her work, volunteering efforts, and her favourite, the sensitisation tours across secondary schools in Ibadan. Though she couldn’t be there, her impact continues to inspire many.”

Muritadha’s work spans FinTech, EduTech, retail, and e-commerce. She builds AI-powered systems that simplify financial services and improve digital education. She also mentors young women in STEM through school outreach, encouraging them to see tech as a path to community value.

The expo’s organisers praised her as a model for Nigerian innovation. “The Distinguished Tech Innovation Award is our way of rewarding the hard work and vision of exceptional talents like Maryam Muritadha,” they said in a statement. “She represents the new face of Nigerian technology; bold, visionary, and community-driven.

Spotlight on Nigeria’s Tech Future

Launched in 2023, Ibadan Tech Expo has grown into a key gathering for the southwest’s tech community. The 2025 edition focused on local innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and sustainable models for emerging markets. It featured panels, masterclasses, exhibitions, and awards, attracting thousands including entrepreneurs, investors, and officials.

The event restated Nigeria’s push to become a continental tech hub. With youth unemployment high, initiatives like Muritadha’s aim to build skills and inspire the next wave of innovators.

I love to write about the things I love to read about. That includes sports, tech, DIYs, literature, music and entertainment. When I'm not writing, I'm either sleeping, reading, watching a funny Netflix series or eating a bowl of abula.
