The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat has launched the 2025 Digital Innovation Challenge, an initiative designed to empower young African innovators in tackling cross-border trade barriers for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The competition seeks scalable digital solutions that can enhance intra-African trade, fostering seamless business interactions across the continent.

Who Can Apply For 2025 Digital Innovation Challenge?

The challenge is open to African entrepreneurs and innovators aged 18 to 35. Individuals, teams, startups, and enterprises developing digital solutions—whether in the ideation, prototype, operational, or scaling phase—are encouraged to apply.

Successful applicants must present bold and innovative solutions addressing trade challenges in at least one of the following areas:

  • Market Intelligence & E-Commerce Platforms – Trade data solutions, business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) platforms.
  • E-Commerce & Logistics – Warehousing, last-mile delivery, and digital aggregation of goods and services.
  • Cross-Border Professional Services – Digital tools enabling seamless service delivery across African borders.
  • Digital Financial Services – Fintech innovations in payments, investments, insurance, and trade finance.
  • Trade & Investment Facilitation – Digital tools simplifying trade procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Entrepreneurial Skills Development – digital training, mentorship, and capacity-building platforms for MSMEs.

Driving Africa’s Digital Transformation

AfCFTA’s initiative aligns with its broader vision of creating a single African market, unlocking economic opportunities for businesses and consumers alike. By eliminating trade barriers and promoting digital innovation, the challenge aims to strengthen the continent’s position in the global digital economy.

This call for innovation could be a game-changer for Africa’s trade landscape, equipping young entrepreneurs with the resources needed to scale their solutions and drive economic growth across borders.

I am passionate about crafting stories, vibing to good music (and making some too), debating Nigeria’s political future like it’s the World Cup, and finding the perfect quiet spot to work and unwind.
