The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed a major agreement with French cybersecurity company, SecDojo. This partnership will create Nigeria’s first Cybersecurity Academy to train local experts and improve national digital security.
The signing took place at the GITEX Africa tech event in Marrakech, Morocco, which runs from April 14 to 16. NITDA Director-General, Malam Kashifu Inuwa, signed the MoU with SecDojo CEO, Younes Benzagmout, at the event.
Partnership Focuses on Cybersecurity Training and Education
NITDA says the partnership will boost Nigeria’s cybersecurity sector with strong training and upskilling programs. The academy will offer advanced courses in cybersecurity, threat response, and digital protection. It will also develop new learning tools and simulation programs for hands-on practice. Additionally, the project will support research, expert exchange, and professional development programs.
NITDA’s spokesperson, Hadiza Umar, said the initiative will help secure Nigeria’s digital future.
She noted that strong cyber skills are now vital as Nigeria continues to grow its digital economy.
Malam Inuwa emphasized the importance of training young Nigerians for tech jobs worldwide. He explained that Nigeria’s young population offers a major opportunity for digital growth. He added that building cybersecurity skills must go beyond short programs and become part of school curriculums. “This partnership should involve the Ministry of Education,” he said. “We must add digital skills into formal education.”
He also noted that NITDA currently runs skill acceleration programs to fill the gap in digital training. However, long-term growth depends on teaching these skills from an early stage in schools.
SecDojo Brings Global Expertise to Nigeria
SecDojo CEO, Younes Benzagmout, said he is proud to support Nigeria’s digital development.
He promised to provide modern learning platforms and tools for students and professionals. He added that the partnership will help shape a strong national cyber training strategy. Benzagmout said the company is committed to working closely with NITDA to build local talent and digital safety.
Together, NITDA and SecDojo aim to create a secure, digital-ready workforce for Nigeria’s future.
