Amazon Web Services (AWS) is again battling connectivity problems, only hours after claiming to have fixed an earlier global internet outage that left millions of users offline.
In a post made at 10:29 a.m. ET, the company confirmed “We continue to investigate the root cause for the network connectivity issues that are impacting AWS services such as DynamoDB, SQS, and Amazon Connect in the US-EAST-1 Region,” AWS said.
According to AWS, engineers are already seeing early signs of recovery while continuing to trace the “root cause” of the issue, which appears linked to its EC2 internal network — a virtual server system used by thousands of companies to run online applications. “We have identified that the issue originated from within the EC2 internal network. We continue to investigate and identify mitigations.”
Impact Spreads Across Industries
The disruption caused ripple effects across several sectors. Earlier, the same outage had affected major firms such as Snapchat, Reddit, Facebook, Fortnite, Coinbase, and Delta Airlines. Even Amazon’s own website, along with PlayStation and Flickr, went offline temporarily, displaying familiar “Error 404” screens and apology messages.
Users in the United Kingdom also reported difficulties accessing their bank accounts through Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, with on-screen messages asking customers to try again later.
Outage tracker Downdetector recorded over 6.5 million reports from users across the globe during the earlier incident, showing how far-reaching AWS failures can be for both businesses and individuals.
Some platforms, like Reddit, have taken matters into their own hands to resolve the disruption. After experiencing issues earlier this morning, Reddit moved quickly to deploy a fix and is now keeping an eye on things to ensure stability. The AI-powered app Perplexity was also caught in the AWS outage, briefly going offline. CEO Aravind Srinivas confirmed on X that the “root cause” stemmed from AWS and announced that both Perplexity and Comet are now “back up, running, and stable.”
While AWS insists that earlier issues were “fully mitigated,” this latest connectivity breakdown suggests a deeper technical challenge. The company has assured users that recovery is underway, but many are growing concerned about the reliability of one of the world’s largest cloud providers.
AWS powers everything from social media apps to financial systems and streaming platforms, meaning that even brief disruptions can cost businesses millions and cause public frustration.
