Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Youth Development has entered a groundbreaking partnership with Flutterwave, aimed at empowering the country’s youth and enhancing their business skills. The agreement, announced by Minister for Youth Development Ayodele Olawande, promises to provide young Nigerians with valuable resources, training, and mentorship opportunities.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties outlines plans to launch impactful projects designed to create sustainable solutions for youth empowerment. Flutterwave’s founder and CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, expressed the company’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurial growth and providing young people with greater access to opportunities. “We are dedicated to creating sustainable solutions that empower young people in Nigeria,” he stated, reaffirming Flutterwave’s dedication to youth-focused initiatives.

Olugbenga Agboola has been vocal about Flutterwave’s mission to expand entrepreneurial prospects, enhance partnerships, and deliver quality training. He further highlighted the company’s role in making financial transactions easier for Nigerians, particularly those in the diaspora. The fintech giant, valued at over $3 billion, currently employs more than 1,000 Nigerians and continues to position itself as a prominent force in the country’s digital economy.

The minister praised Flutterwave’s contribution to youth empowerment and noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s eight priority pillars. According to him, the partnership aims to “provide young entrepreneurs with the resources to scale their businesses. Expanding access to training and mentorship programmes. Supporting youth-led businesses to drive innovation. Strengthening technical and leadership training. Leveraging technology to create sustainable employment opportunities and engaging youth through the NYSC and CLTC.”

The agreement will leverage the Citizenship & Leadership Training Centre and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to drive the initiative’s success. Minister Olawande noted that the collaboration would significantly boost efforts to secure a brighter future for Nigerian youth and contribute to the country’s economic transformation.

President Bola Tinubu recently endorsed Flutterwave’s ambition to be listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX). During a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu assured his administration’s support for the company, saying, “Nigeria is genuinely open to business, and as President, I am determined to remove all obstacles to allow companies to thrive.”

The collaboration between Flutterwave and the Nigerian government marks a significant step toward youth empowerment. As both parties work toward implementing their ambitious plans, the potential impact on young entrepreneurs could reshape the nation’s economic landscape.

I am passionate about crafting stories, vibing to good music (and making some too), debating Nigeria’s political future like it’s the World Cup, and finding the perfect quiet spot to work and unwind.
