Google has rolled out the global beta of AI Max, a new upgrade to its Search Ads platform. This powerful tool uses artificial intelligence to help businesses, especially in Africa, run smarter ads and reach more customers online.

The new feature improves how ads appear in search results. It helps local businesses, like shops and service providers, connect with more people searching for what they offer.

AI Max Helps African Businesses Reach More Customers

As more Africans go online to shop or compare services, it has become harder for businesses to stand out. AI Max makes it easier for them to reach the right customers at the right time.

Brian Burdick, Google’s Senior Director of Search, said that people now search using more specific questions. He explained, “With AI Max, we better understand what people are looking for and help businesses show up with useful and relevant ads.”

The AI uses Google’s Gemini technology to go beyond traditional keyword targeting. For example, a small store in Kumasi that sells handmade bags can now appear in searches like “durable carryall for weekend travel,” even if that exact phrase isn’t in the ad.

AI Max includes several tools to boost ad performance:

  • Search term matching: Finds new search terms that relate to your business, even if you didn’t think of them.
  • Dynamic text customization: Updates your ad text in real time based on what the user is searching for.
  • Final URL expansion: Sends users to the most relevant page on your website.
  • Control settings: Let you target locations, set brand filters, and manage how your ads appear.

These tools help African entrepreneurs who may be working with tight budgets. By using AI Max, they can make sure every ad reaches people who are more likely to take action, like visiting a website or making a purchase.

Google revealed that early users of AI Max saw a 14% increase in conversions without spending more money. Businesses using older ad methods saw even bigger improvements.

AI Max also saves time. African entrepreneurs who handle many tasks can rely on the system to manage their ads more effectively without extra work.

Easy to Start Using Max

AI Max works with existing search campaigns, so business owners don’t need to start over or create new ads. They can simply add the feature to their current setup.

This launch is part of Google’s wider plan to support small and medium-sized businesses in Africa. The company already offers tools like the Hustle Academy, which trains business owners in digital skills.

Google will make the AI available in open beta later this month across the globe, including in Africa.
