The Federal Ministry of Education has introduced a nationwide digital learning programme that promises to change how pupils learn across the country. The initiative, known as Inspire Live(s), delivers real-time classroom sessions to secondary school learners through online platforms.
The ministry explained the project in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo. It described the move as a major step toward expanding equal access to quality education. The programme also aligns with the federal government’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda. Officials said the system aims to solve persistent gaps in the education space, especially the shortage of trained teachers and the frequent interruptions that affect schooling.
Online Classes Nigeria Roll Out Nationwide
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, confirmed that full implementation has already begun. “The rollout is underway, with expansion set to cover all classes from Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 3,” he said. The Inspire platform currently provides online classes in Nigeria for learners in JSS and SSS levels. Lessons run from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and they are taught by certified master teachers through Cisco Webex.
Subjects for Junior Secondary School include Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Civic Education, Basic Science, Basic Technology, Agricultural Science, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History and Business Studies. Senior Secondary School learners also have access to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing or Catering Craft, Civic Education and Automobile Mechanics.
The ministry has asked state governments to support the rollout. Commissioners for Education must appoint focal officers to coordinate Inspire Live(s) activities and share programme information with public and private school principals. They must also ensure that selected schools have basic ICT tools and reliable internet access for the smooth delivery of online classes in Nigeria.
Registration will be handled strictly by school principals through the Inspire support channels. Although the initiative is led by the federal government, the ministry stressed that it is available to all schools. It noted that both public and private institutions can join the platform at any time.
