Telecom giant Globacom has introduced a new service to help users cushion the impact of mobile phone mishaps. In collaboration with tech enabler Cubecover, Glo is now offering a device protection plan that provides cover for screen and water damage, with benefits reaching up to ₦50,000.
According to the company, the initiative is the first of its kind in Nigeria’s telecom space. With a small premium starting at just ₦50 per day, customers can safeguard their devices against common accidents. For those preferring alternative billing, weekly and monthly plans go for ₦300 and ₦600, respectively.
“This affordable micro-protection allows subscribers to receive up to ₦50,000 worth of screen repair free when damage occurs,” explained Mojeed Aluko, Head of Value Added Services at Glo.
How the Glo-Cubecover Plan Actually Works
To enrol, customers can simply dial *7013*1# and select a plan that suits their budget. Payment is made directly from existing Glo airtime and can be set as one-time or auto-renewable. Once the payment is processed, a screen diagnostic link is sent to the user. If the device passes this test, its IMEI is officially registered under the programme.
However, there’s a catch—device protection becomes valid only after the customer maintains an active subscription for one full month. This means immediate claims are off the table for new subscribers.
Glo says this protection system is about more than just repairs. “As a responsive and innovative network, we are leveraging this opportunity to provide meaningful protection to our customers,” said Aluko. “Helping them stay connected even in the event of accidental damage.”
Cubecover’s Role in Enhancing Mobile Security
Cubecover, the tech firm powering this innovation, sees the partnership as a much-needed solution for Nigeria’s growing mobile-first population. Managing Director Deji Macaulay described the collaboration with Glo as a game-changer.
“Our alliance with Glo will help reduce the daily anxieties of phone users,” he said. The service aims to solve the widespread frustration of unexpected phone damage and the high costs that follow.
