NIMC

Nigeria’s identity agency is taking another step towards digital service delivery as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) launches new customer support channels for Nigerians seeking help with their National Identification Number (NIN).

The commission announced that users can now access real-time assistance through WhatsApp and a live chat feature on its official website. The move comes as more Nigerians rely on digital platforms for identity verification and related services.

According to NIMC, the new NIN support channels are part of broader reforms being introduced under the leadership of the agency’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote.

The commission explained that the initiative aims to reduce stress for users who often visit physical centres for basic enquiries and updates.

In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications Unit, Kayode Adegoke, NIMC said the digital channels would offer quicker responses and improve customer experience.

The commission stated: “The newly introduced platforms are designed to provide prompt responses to enquiries, real-time guidance, and improved customer interaction from anywhere and at any time, reducing the need for physical visits while enhancing user experience and operational efficiency.”

A fresh push for easier NIN support

With the new system, Nigerians and legal residents can now contact the agency through its official WhatsApp support line and the live chat option available on the NIMC website.

The commission believes the digital support system will improve access to NIN services, especially for users who need quick guidance on registration, corrections, verification, and other identity-related matters.

NIMC also linked the initiative to the Federal Government’s digital transformation plans under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the agency, technology-driven public services remain important to improving efficiency across government institutions.

The commission added that the latest reform would help strengthen public trust while making identity management services more accessible nationwide.

NIMC warns against fake platforms

While introducing the new NIN support channels, the commission also warned Nigerians to stay away from unofficial platforms and suspicious agents.

NIMC advised users to rely only on verified communication channels to avoid scams, misinformation, and fraudulent activities connected to NIN services.

The agency stressed that it would continue to introduce digital identity solutions aimed at improving service delivery across the country.

For many Nigerians, the launch may also ease the frustration linked to delayed responses and overcrowded enrolment centres.
