An image of Meta AI building

As the internet giant moves farther toward subscription-based services beyond advertising revenue, Meta Platforms has begun to roll out paid membership plans for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp users worldwide.

“Plus” plans are now available for all of Meta’s main apps. Subscribers will have access to additional features aimed at enhancing creator tools, personalisation, and interaction.

Depending on the platform and market, memberships to Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus will cost between $2.99 and $3.99 per month, according to Meta.

As part of a larger plan to increase digital services throughout its ecosystem and create new revenue streams outside of traditional advertisements, the business made the announcement on Wednesday.

According to Naomi Gleit, Head of Product at Meta, the business intends to add more features as customer demand increases.

Gleit announced the membership plans, saying that “more fun features” will be added gradually.

She clarified that the service primarily caters to active users, creators, and those seeking more in-depth interaction capabilities on all of Meta’s platforms.

Meta invests more in AI subscriptions

Meta announced intentions to test premium artificial intelligence subscriptions under a new brand dubbed “Meta One” in addition to the new Plus options.

The AI-focused subscriptions will cost $7.99 and $19.99 per month, according to the business. Stronger processing capacity, more sophisticated reasoning capabilities, and more tools for creating images and videos through Meta AI are all included in the higher plan.

Next month, testing for the AI subscriptions is anticipated to start in a few nations, including as Bolivia, Guatemala, and Singapore.

The new subscription goods, according to Meta, are distinct from Meta Verified, which presently concentrates on customer service, account verification, and impersonation prevention.

Users of Instagram Plus will get a number of new features. In addition to creating unlimited audience lists and extending Stories past the typical 24-hour limit, subscribers may see how many people have rewatched their stories.

Additionally, users will be able to preview stories on the site in private without showing up on viewer lists. To increase visibility, subscribers can also scan viewer lists and highlight one story each week.

Additionally, users can post straight to their profile highlights, according to Meta, without forcing the content into their followers’ feeds.

Custom app icons, animated reactions, customisable profile fonts, and more profile pins are among the other enhancements.

Facebook Plus will provide a number of comparable tools. With premium stickers, personalised themes, ringtones, additional bookmarked chats, and sophisticated chat organization capabilities, WhatsApp Plus will prioritise communications customisation.
