Konsume, an AI-powered platform designed to promote healthier lifestyles, has emerged as the winner of the Generative AI Network (GAIN) hackathon. Organised by Instig Labs, a leading business and tech incubation hub, the competition provided university students with hands-on experience in artificial intelligence through interactive workshops, collaborative projects, and a high-stakes inter-university hackathon.
Driving AI Innovation Among Students
GAIN is more than just a competition—it equips students with the skills to build professional portfolios while connecting them with AI-focused companies worldwide. According to Michael Osumo, Project Manager at Instig Labs, the hackathon challenges students to develop AI-driven solutions tackling real-world issues across industries like healthcare, finance, and education. Participants compete for cash prizes, mentorship opportunities, and potential incubation for their projects.
Expert Panel Evaluates Cutting-Edge Solutions
A distinguished panel of judges assessed the competing projects, including industry leaders Manasseh Egedegbe, Derek Cheung, Taiwo Sulaimon, Joshua Udensi, and Eric Ezenwanne. Eric, the founder of Keyz Health—a US-based health services company and program partner—praised the impressive standard of the projects, stating, “These are software solutions that can compete on a global scale.”
Evaluation criteria focused on clarity, innovation, technical execution, feasibility, value, presentation, and overall impact. Taiwo Sulaimon, co-founder of GetCrib.co, highlighted that the participants’ work not only demonstrated technical expertise but also underscored AI’s potential in addressing global challenges.
Konsume: The Winning AI Solution
Konsume secured first place with its AI-powered meal recommendation platform, which provides tailored dietary plans based on users’ health conditions, preferences, and nutritional needs. The app integrates with restaurants to offer curated meal options while allowing users to track their progress and maintain personalised meal schedules.
