Vodafone Oman has entered into a groundbreaking partnership with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence and digital innovation in the region. The agreement is expected to significantly impact Oman’s knowledge economy, with Vodafone introducing an Innovation Award aimed at celebrating tech solutions that tackle real-world challenges.
Alongside the award, Vodafone will also fund a PhD scholarship focused on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Digitisation. This initiative reflects the telecom company’s growing commitment to fostering academic excellence and bridging the gap between theory and application in emerging technologies. “Innovation is not just about technology. It’s about people, ideas, and the right environment to turn potential into impact,” said Eng. Bader Al Zidi, CEO of Vodafone Oman. “Our partnership with Sultan Qaboos University is a step towards building that environment, one where academic research meets industry expertise to create meaningful advancements.“
The deal highlights the increasing relevance of collaboration between academic institutions and industry in driving tech-forward economies. With AI and automation projected to add as much as $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, Oman is positioning itself as a key player in the Middle East’s digital revolution. Vodafone’s investment aligns with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises innovation and digital transformation as essential tools for economic diversification and long-term sustainability.
