The Federal Government is exploring a new partnership with fintech giant Flutterwave to boost Nigeria’s digital economy and strengthen financial inclusion for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Discussions were held in Abuja at the Ministry of Finance, led by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, alongside top officials from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and Flutterwave executives.

During the meeting, both parties explored how the government could leverage Flutterwave’s digital infrastructure to improve access to finance, enhance cross-border transactions, and open new markets for Nigerian businesses.

Driving Innovation Through Collaboration

Flutterwave, which operates in more than 30 African countries, presented its latest payment solutions designed to simplify regional trade and help local businesses scale globally. The company showcased how its platform connects entrepreneurs with customers across borders, enabling job creation and increased economic activity.

Our solutions aim to make digital trade seamless for businesses across Africa,” Flutterwave executives explained, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation and inclusive finance.

MOFI and Flutterwave also agreed to design a collaborative roadmap aligned with Nigeria’s national economic goals. The plan will prioritise digital payments, public finance technology, and innovation-led growth — all critical to expanding financial access for underserved businesses.

If finalised, the partnership could transform Nigeria’s digital payments ecosystem while strengthening investor confidence in the country’s fintech sector. Officials from the Ministry noted that such collaborations will help Nigeria position itself as a regional hub for digital finance and innovation.

I am passionate about crafting stories, vibing to good music (and making some too), debating Nigeria’s political future like it’s the World Cup, and finding the perfect quiet spot to work and unwind.
